Its finished! I love how the nautical tumbler quilt turned out…. ok I might post too many pictures, but really you can’t have too many quilt pictures.
The tumbler quilt is complete with a simple white binding made of Robert Kaufman Kona Cotton. The solid white helps show off the colors and keeps it simple.
Bindings with prints are fun to use and add character to quilt projects, but my grandmother always used white or off white. When I use a solid white, it always reminds me of her quilts.
Quilt Top
The quilt top was pretty easy to cut and assemble by rows. For this quilt, I used the AccuQuilt Go! Fabric Cutter to cut out the tumbler blocks using the 3 1/2″ tumbler die template. The cutter makes an easy tumbler quilt block and is a fun gadget to use.
Sometimes it’s nice to take a break from the rotary cutter. Since the tumblers are cut out with rounded corners, they fit neatly together in simple, but fun pattern.
Quilting
I quilted a line a quarter of an inch above and below each horizontal line and one vertical line through each of the tumblers.
All stitching lines start and stop at the edge of the quilt. I usually stitch in one direction, start all the lines on one side and finish sewing all on the other side. Although it takes more time, it’s worth it. You want to keep the tension on the fabric going in the same direction and the quilt top looking smooth.
The quilting lines work well with the lines on the backing fabric.
The backing is Little Apples – Lollipop and White Linen Sweater Check by Aneela Hoey for Moda Fabrics.
Aneela Hoey’s fabrics are so sweet and fun. I love fabric with simple geometric designs.
Tumbler quilts are so fun. They are so simple to make and they are perfect for using your fabric scraps. The options are endless. You can find some of my other tumbler quilts here.
