Super Easy Mug Rug Ideas

2 Fun and Colorful Mug Rug Ideas

I enjoyed making a mug rug for my sister and myself so much that I decided to make some for my grandmother.  I looked through my fabric stash for some mug rug ideas, I kept thinking, “Oooo she will like this, and she will like that, and…” you get the idea.  So 3 it is, one for her sewing table, by her chair in the living room and her reading nook.

The colors and patterns in Millie’s Closet by Lori Holt are so bright and colorful.  The purses are too cute!

Mug Rug Back

The back is a solid piece of fabric, but you could piece it any way you want.

Aneela Hoey A Walk in the Woods Mug Rug
This is right up her alley.  The way the Little Red Riding Hood and the animals are drawn fits her style and she loves soft shades of blue.  The fabric is from A Walk in the Woods by Aneela Hoey.

I had fun fussy cutting the fabrics to show the different characters.  My favorite is the little bird on the mushroom.

I love how the stitching turned out on the back.  Let me take a moment to say that I love Aneela Hoey’s fabrics.  She is so talented.  This is such a creative, fun, and sweet collection.  I cannot get enough of her fabrics!

2 Quilted Mug Rug Ideas
Well, I am sure you are saying “Wait, didn’t you say there were three?”  I told my husband that I was making my grandmother some mug rugs and he said “I want one too!”  He wants it for his desk at work.  I was really surprised and flattered… so stay tuned for more mug rug ideas, one more for my grandmother and one for my husband.  These measure 8.5″ by 5.5″.
