New Sewing Supplies Every Quilter Needs and Loves

Shopping for New Sewing Supplies

Here is a list of some must have sewing supplies for quilting and sewing. Joann is having their big coupon commotion sale this week, so why not update my sewing supplies?

* A new cutting mat – My current mat is 18″ by 24″ and is cracked and tearing. I upgraded to a larger one, 24″ by 36″ to make it easier to cut larger sewing projects. I will keep the smaller one for small projects, but it really is in disrepair. I have been waiting for an opportunity to buy this on sale.

* Pack of 5 new blades for my rotary cutter – Mine are in serious need of replacing. The rotary cutter was starting to chew on the fabric, but I was holding out for a sale. New blades always cut so much easier, cleaner and faster.

* New Gutermann Cotton thread – my favorite. I go through it so fast that I purchase it in 800m spools. Especially white, because I machine quilt with white thread.

* Schmetz Quilting Needles – I am sure you have heard that you need to change them pretty often. At least after each project. A dull needle can snag your fabric and make a mess of your stitches. It can also break in the middle of your sewing and that is no fun to fix in the middle of machine quilting.

* Kwik Klip – If you have read any of my previous posts about pinning a quilt, you will know that I have been wanting one of these for a while to save my fingers. I always scratch my fingernails, get stuck by the pins, and my poor fingers hurt after pinning a quilt. I tried the Kwik Klip when I was sewing with a friend and it was so nice and easy on my fingers. No tender fingers anymore.

* 6.5″ square ruler – This is a lot easier to maneuver when working on smaller projects. I have been using this to trim up squares for my Half Moon Modern quilt. So much easier!

There is nothing like having the right tools to help you work more efficiently and simplify your projects.
