Sister Sewing 101
Yesterday was a fun day of sewing. My sister was in town to celebrate my father’s birthday and while she was here, she asked me to teach her a little sewing. She is redecorating her apartment and decided to make pillow covers to spruce up her bedroom and living room.
She has never sewn before, but she loves fabric. I can tell that she has the beginnings of a fabric addiction. She can spend hours looking at different fabrics on the internet. That’s how it starts right?
She picked out four great fabrics to make her pillows. She chose to make the front of the pillows with decor fabric and the back with a coordinating Kona cotton. I taught her how to make an envelope back so she can remove the covers and wash them.
The machine she is using was my first Janome sewing machine before I upgraded to the Janome Horizon that I am using. Love the Horizon!
Now who is taking the pictures, you might ask. Well, that is my other sister. I am the oldest. Sisters… don’t we look friendly. She kept getting on to us because we were not being very photogenic. I kept blinking and we both looked too serious. What can we say, we were focused!
But we had fun. Never a dull moment when the three of us get together. Actually it can get pretty crazy.
Here is a sneak peak of something I am working on. I tried to make some progress on my current project while I helped her. I made a little progress. Just a little. You can find the post about these blocks here…
She had fun and is so proud of her pillow covers. She did a great job! I am not sure if she is going to sew on a regular basis, but she really enjoyed it (I’ll keep working on her).
Now on a non-sewing related topic, I just have to say that I am completely ecstatic that the Tour de France has started. I am a huge cycling fan and love every minute of the Tour. I follow other cycling races, but this one is my favorite. I can promise you that for the next three weeks I will be watching the Tour while I am sewing. I can’t get enough.
Sadly my favorite cyclist, Andy Schleck, is out with a broken pelvis. So I am not sure who I will be cheering for this year. There are many cyclists that I follow, but he is my favorite.
Happy Sewing!

As an Aussie, I would encourage you to 'yell for Cadel'! I love the cycling too, having spent the last two European summers catching some of the Tour action live! Love the red, grey and striped blocks!

I love the death stare photo – glad you had a great time and passed on a bit of fabric love 😉

Thank you! Well, Cadel beat the Schleck brothers last year. Not happy about that! 🙂 I bet that was amazing getting to see the tour in person. One day I will get to see it live!

Hi there,
Came across you at Sew Many Ways. What a lovely post, it sounds like you had great fun with your sisters and made something useful. I guess by now you know who won the tour de france. I can't believe that it's a guy from my hometown who won, Bradley Wiggans. Your sneak peak looks lovely, the colours look great. Thanks for sharing. Ali x

It looks like you gals have a lot of fun when your together. I have 6 sisters and we get together once a year for 10 days of quilting and sewing. It's a blast.
