With several birthdays coming up, I thought I would whip up some fun party banners for the festivities. Any chance to play with fabric right?
These are super easy to make. Just grab a package of medium ric rac for each banner and some fun, colorful fabrics. I chose simple geometric patterns with each triangle as primarily one color, but you can mix and match it any way you want.
Easy party banners are also great for themed parties. If you are planning a Bluey party, you can use Bluey colors and fabrics. These banners are also fun to decorate kids rooms.
Step by Step
Materials: One package of medium ric rac, 13 fabric triangles
1. Cut the ric rac to 90″
2. Draw a triangle template: They can be any size you like, but for these I made them 5″ across the top and 7″ tall. Draw a 5″ by 7″ rectangle (example below). Find the center of the bottom of the rectangle and draw a line from each top corner to the center. Now you have your template. Tip: Save your template so you can easily make more in the future.
3. Cut your template out, mark your fabric (I like to use my handy Hera Marker) and cut out 13 triangles using pinking shears or a pinking rotary blade on your rotary cutter.
4. Layout your triangles how you want them. Mine look random, but I played with the order before I settled on the final look.
5. Stack them up in order and get ready to start sewing. Tip: I sewed looking at the back side of the banner to ensure that each piece is stitched on neatly.
Start 6″ from the end of the ric rac, place the first triangle face down in place and sew it. Leave an inch gap and then add the next triangle. Continue to the end. There should be 7 extra inches at the end. Trim to 6″.
Whose ready to party? These easy party banners are so quick to make you can whip some up whenever you need some extra decorations.
Happy Sewing
