Half Square Triangles

Don’t You Just Love Solids…

Robert Kaufman Kona Cotton:  Magenta, Bright Pink, Red, Kumquat, Kiwi, Peacock, Pacific

I am working on a new project with Kona cotton solids.  The inspiration for it is the umbrella in my blog button.  I love these bright colors and I fell in love with them even more when I opened the package in the mail and got them in my hands.  RK Kona cottons have such a great texture and the colors are so rich.

When I ordered these, my Kona cotton card came in mighty handy.  Even with the card it took me awhile to make up my mind on which particular colors I wanted to use.

I love working with these solids, they are so bright and cheerful.  When I started cutting into them, all sorts of ideas for future projects popped in my head.  The possibilities are endless!

Half square triangles and lots of trimming to get them to just the right size.  These are 6.5″ squares and I am going to sew them together to make 12″ blocks.
I am sure you noticed that a stripe print snuck in there.  It is a Robert Kaufman yellow stripe and I am in love with it.  Yes, I know, I say that a lot!

When I first saw the yellow stripe, the idea for this umbrella based project came to me.  I knew I wanted to use it with all solids.  So I purchased 2 yards and quickly used that up with my Rose Quilt.  The next time I ordered 6 yards because I have a lot of plans for it.

I won’t be able to share the results of this project for a couple of months, but will share it eventually.  I can however, give you a little glimpse of some of the finished blocks…

Happy Sewing!
Candace
