Some friends of ours have a sweet baby on the way and I had to make them a baby quilt. I decided to make a scrappy half square triangle quilt.
The colors of her room are yellow, turquoise, orange, and pink. I chose lots of geometric patterns, birds, flowers, and fun little objects such as bikes, scooters, pinwheels, etc. I basically picked all my favorites! I had so much fun working with these fabrics.
I also threw in some solid colors instead of solid white. I love how the bright solids mix in with the others. It helps bring out the colors in the low volume fabrics and balance the prints.
This large stripe I found at Ikea and I am going to use this fabric for the back of the quilt.
This is not a color combination that I would normally choose, but I have really enjoyed playing with these colors. I love using simple geometric patterns and fun little prints.
I love to put a good show on the TV when I am cutting out all the pieces for a new quilt project. This pattern uses the simple method for making half square triangles (HST).
Stacked trimmed half square triangles. Trimming is tedious, but it is so satisfying when they are all trimmed and neat and pretty!
Such pretty colors and prints. I usually put together larger and simpler prints with small busy prints or a solid with a busy print.
Cannot tell you how great this turned out! It is truly so pretty! The solid colors instead of white was an excellent choice. Any plans for how you'll quilt it?
Love this. The brights are so yummy and the scattering of solids is genius. So fun looking through all the prints too and finding some cute surprises (the elephants!). 🙂
love your HST quilt! Such great colors ! by the way, I started a new link party on Thursdays- Needle and Thread Thursday. You should definitely hop over and link up tomorrow!
Love this baby quilt! It is so bright and fun, the scrappy look really makes it adorable. I love your pile of freshly trimmed HST's! Something about that makes me smile.

I love this cheery quilt! It reminds me of another favorite quilter, Rita of Red Pepper Quits. I need to make one someday. Your fabrics are just wonderful!! I helped my grand-daughter make a quilt and we trimmed them down. The quilt came out just beautiful. I don't like trimming but it makes the quilt shine, just like yours! That Mother is going to LOVE that quilt.
