This sweet tumbler quilt is finished and I am just tickled pink with it. I love everything about it… the colors, the fun and sweet fabrics (including the birds), the old fashioned tumbler block, and all that scrappiness!
I have made tumbler quilts with hand cut tumblers before. This Rainbow 30’s Reproduction Quilt is a good example. However, sometimes it’s nice to take a break from the rotary cutter.
I love the mix of lime greens, soft and bright blues, yellows, low volume fabrics (including two text prints and my favorite chicken wire), with a little red and pink thrown in. The finished size is 41″ by 47″.
I added lots of simple prints that add texture. Stripes and word prints are some of my favorites.
For this quilt I started with sweet little bird prints and picked coordinating colors and prints and threw in the red for a little extra. The red also happens to be a little bird print.
The back contains a wide stripe of Church Flowers from the Nicey Jane collection by Heather Bailey for Free Spirit. The colors and the beautiful blue flowers in this fabric blend well with the front. I love this print and am so happy I found a great place to use it.
These prints go so well together. Tumbler quilts are a great quilt project to use up your scrap stash.
Most quilters have over flowing scrap piles and one way to use up those scraps is to make a tumbler quilt. They look so good as a scrappy quilt.
I usually try to include a mix of small, medium and large prints and sometimes its nice to add in a few solids.
The quilting looks so good on the back. For this quilt I stitched on each side of the horizontal and vertical seams.
I hope you have enjoyed looking at all the pictures. It is difficult to capture the true feel and appearance of a quilt in a picture, but I tried. I love the texture of this tumbler quilt (what am I saying… really all quilts).
Cheers!
Candace
Here is a list of previous posts containing all the different steps through the process of making this quilt:
Good Morning Candace, You are a wonder women to be able to finish this beautiful quilt, paint your rooms and run up curtains. This is such a light and airy looking quilt and I love that you have used tumbler blocks. I always feel such a wonderful sense of achievement when I finish a quilt, because there is then, the excitement of starting a new project. Have a lovely day, Best Wishes Daphne
I love this quilt, love tumblers & love your fabric choices! A fresh, breezy summer quilt. May I ask which tumbler template you used, I see so many of them out there? Enjoy the quilt & the work you did on your house!
Oh Candace I just love it! I am also in the middle of some home projects and work full time so my quilting projects are last :0( But I try to squeeze in a few minutes here and there. Glad to see you back the room the quilt is in is so charming.
Hope you don't mind… I Love your tumblers quilt and your photos are so perfect. I just had to share to my faceboook page with a link back! Congrats on the finish, Candace!
That quilt is beautiful! Saying that I LOVE the colors is an understatement! I just recently bought a tumbler template and think I might need to make a one asap! Just found you from Confessions of a Fabric Addict. New follower! ps – I love the scrap fabric jar…makes it look decorative instead of ominous like mine does.
Such a pretty quilt. I love the way you quilted it, too. I've been following you ever since I stumbled across your wonderful I Spy beach quilt – the one that is in your banner.
Thank you Pat! Always good to hear from you! I don't know if you know this or not, but you are a no-reply blogger (meaning email won't allow me to respond back to you). You may prefer it that way and that is fine, but you are always so sweet to leave me such nice comments and I cannot reply. So thank you, thank you, thank you for all the lovely comments you send me and for being a devoted follower!!!
What a gorgeous quilt, I agree with you about the colours, they work so beautifully together. I am thinking I must try a tumbler quilt sooner rather than later after seeing this! Cheers.

I love your quilt so much! The fabric combo is perfect and I love the backing fabric a lot too, Heather Bailey's fabric is so great, I've used it on many of my quilt backs too. I haven't tried the tumbler block, and you've really inspired me to give it a go 🙂
Candace……..what a beautiful quilt….love the colour choice!! The backing is gorgeous. Must add some of it to my stash. Have a great day Marie (mlismore@optusnet.com.au)
Quilt is beautiful and so is the FMQ. Looks like the top four rows you outlined all the seams, but then for the remainder skipped a seam? Am I seeing this correctly? Do you remember why? I'm about to FMQ my tumbler quilt that has been basted since late 2012… Thanks.
Thank you! I quilted it by outlining all of the vertical and horizontal seams. I didn’t skip any seams. This picture of the back shows the quilting a little better… https://www.flickr.com/photos/76589690@N08/9352449870/.
