The Travel Duffle Bag Pattern is from Studio Cherie. She offers a lot of great patterns including this one. I have made several of these bags for different family members and now this one is to keep.
The Travel Duffle Bag is so roomy and heavy duty. It is a very easy project as long as you have a sewing machine that can handle bulkier projects.
The instructions are clear and and well written. It is a popular pattern you can purchase on Etsy and currently has around 4500 happy reviews.
I purchased the Travel Duffle Bag pattern almost three years ago when I had a different sewing machine. My previous machine couldn’t really handle the thickness or the weight of the batting and fabric.
I started this project then and it quickly became a big mess, so like any self respecting sewer, I put it in the closet for a later date.
Jump ahead a year later and I gained some new skills and a new machine and ended up making three Travel Duffle Bags as Christmas gifts for my mother and sisters. The next year I made one for my grandmother for Christmas.
I decided that since I have made one for everyone else, it was time to break out the mess and finish the first one I started. I pulled out my stitching, pressed it with some starch and a hot iron and started all over again. It is amazing the difference a stronger machine and a little sewing experience can make.
When I finish one of these duffle bags, it always amazes me how big they are. It doesn’t look like it is going to be that big when I am putting it together, but this bad boy can hold a lot! The dimensions are 20″ long, 12″ deep, and 12″ high.
The Travel Duffle Bag is such a fun project. It makes a great gift. Cherie sells them as bridesmaids’ gifts and destination wedding gifts. Her instructions make it so easy and it is easy to maintain. If it gets dirty, you can throw it in the washing machine. This bag will last you a long time.
What project of yours is taking up space in your closet? I would love to hear about it and maybe I have inspired you to break it out and finish it up.
Happy Sewing!
Candace

Congratulations on the finish! The more expensive sewing machines are soooo worth it! I really like that bag! I might make one in the upcoming months! Esther esthersipatchandquilt at yahoo dot com Ipatchandquilt dot wordpress dot com
I don't have that many projects hidden away, but I'm really hard on myself about finishing. I've made a few duffle bags for daughters-in-law. They've been clamoring for more in the last year, so I may try your design. I love those colors and the shape of your bag!
I had more and more projects hidden away. I have a list with all my WIPś and UFO's. That is because I see so much projects while visiting blogs. But since a few weeks I am hard for myself too. When finishing one new project, I have to finish an old one too. You should think that after a while there aren't UFO's left! Lovely duffel, may be I finish one this week …….
What a beautiful duffel bag and I can't believe you started it that long ago! Having a sewing machine that can go through thick layers is wonderful to have. My vintage singers are great for that. Thanks for sharing. Freemotion by the River Linky Party Tuesday
Great bag! I might make a similar one for my niece for Christmas. What's taking up space? Oh, so many things. I just cleaned my sewing room and I am trying to knock things out. My goal is to have all my tops quilted before year's end. I would also like to have a pair of flannel tops that I have the blocks for turned into quilts for my grand nieces.
Love your blog. So many practical projects, great work. Congratulations on your finish. Love the quilting. I agree with you about curtains, but somebody has got to do it, right? Thanks for sharing your success and inspiring so many people with your sewing.
