About

Hi, I’m Candace

Greetings and welcome to Saltwater Quilts!  I am a mother of three and enjoy sewing, quilting and collecting fabric.  My quilting style is modern quilting, using colorful fabrics, with traditional designs.

I am crazy about fabric prints and learning to make my own fabric designs to print on fabric for future projects.

Growing up I was always crafty and loved sewing and playing with fabric, but I fell in love with quilting when I was a teen visiting my grandmother.  I saw her hand quilting a beautiful quilt and was hooked.  She only pieced and quilted by hand and was always working on a new project.  She taught me so much about quilting and started my obsession with quilts.

I started Saltwater Quilts in 2012 and blogged for several years.  Life took a few turns and I took a break from blogging until now.

Why Saltwater Quilts?

I am a southern girl living in southeast Texas near the Gulf Coast for many years now, but I was born and spent my younger years in northern Florida on what is called the Emerald Coast.

I love living in Texas, but I am a beach girl through and through.  Many of my family members live in Florida and I visit as often as I can.  Definitely a saltwater girl to the core.

I hope Saltwater Quilts becomes a source of quilt inspiration and answers any questions you may have through tutorials and patterns.

My First Quilt - Road to Oklahoma

This quilt is the first quilt I ever made.  I was 16 and visiting my grandmother at the time.  She walked me through all the steps of assembling the quilt and hand quilting it.  I have so many memories of working on this quilt and spending time with her.

Welcome to Saltwater Quilts

The pattern is Road to Oklahoma and it is machine pieced and hand quilted.  Definitely a traditional quilt.  It is heavily quilted because I was new to quilting and wanted to try every design I could think of.  I love the look of a quilt that is hand quilted close together.  Now don’t get me wrong, I love machine quilting too and use it for most of my current projects because life is busy.

The quilt is large measuring 96″ by 96″.  I am very proud of this quilt and all the work that went into it.  I definitely made mistakes and learned volumes through the whole process.

It looks older than 25 years and earned every bit of its wear and tear.  With it’s age it is soft and comfortable and only makes me want to use it more.

You can find my patterns and quilts in my Etsy Shop.
