Lush Uptown Fabric Collection for New Quilt Project
Lush Uptown Fabric My next quilt project is the “Joy” quilt from Cindy Lammon’s Simply Modern Christmas quilt book. Β I started with the Lush Uptown fabric collection by Erin Michael for Moda and added other coordinating fabrics. The Paint by Number Birds in Sky, Poppy, and Unpainted are what first caught my eye and are the fabrics I planned the quilt around. The Sky is going to be a large border around the quilt, the Poppy is going to be in small pieces throughout the quilt an the Unpainted will be the majority of the quilt backing. These are the other fabrics I chose to include in the quilt. Β Starting…

Duffle Bag Sewing
I am happy to get back to sewing things I enjoy, instead of curtains and more curtains. I have recently taken on some house updating projects that entailed painting my kitchen and master bathroom as well as making curtains for four, yes four rooms. Curtains are my least favorite thing to sew, but it never fails that I cannot find pre-made curtains the right length, color, fabric type, etc. So I always end up making them no matter how much I resist. We recently moved into our home and so all the windows needed new coverings… yuck. So I am finished with all that fun stuff (sarcasm) and am happy…

Log Cabin Blocks
Hello friends! The latest news is that I have moved into my new house and am slowly getting unpacked and settled in. I am not even going to show you what my future sewing/guest bedroom looks like right now. I really have my work cut out for me to get that room ready for sewing. In the meantime I thought I would share with you a great resource I have stumbled upon. Fons and Porter is offering a free, 24 page eBook titled, “Build Your Best Log Cabin“. When you sign up for the eBook, you will also become a member of the Fons & Porter online community and…

Change is in the air…
Hello friends! I have some news to share with you. We recently and rather suddenly found out that we are going to be moving to another state for my husband’s job. We are going to be moving from southeast Texas to Oklahoma. It is exciting and terrifying. Everything about the move is good except we will be moving away from our families. We have lived here more than 20 years and it takes only 20 minutes to get to both of our parents’ houses. I am so worried about how my kiddos are going to handle moving so far from grandparents, aunts and uncles, friends, and our church family. I…

A Complete Reunion
The Reunion Quilt is complete. The fabric in this quilt is from the Reunion collection by Sweetwater for Moda. I love working with this collection. The fabrics are so fun and cheerful. The finished quilt is a donation for a church auction. Here is a brief look at the back. The pattern is the same one I used for my Rose Quilt and I am currently working on putting a pattern together. Keep an eye out and I should have it listed in my Etsy shop in the next few days. Update** The pattern is now available in my Etsy shop and you can find it here – PDF Pattern Double Stack. It is a simple and fun design…

Reunion Quilt Sandwich
Here is quick shot of the Reunion quilt top all together. After I finished the top, I put the back together. This is a picture of the back from the wrong side after I spread it out flat and smooth making sure everything is straight and tight (just don’t pull too tight to stretch the fabric). This is the first part of putting the quilt sandwich together. Once the back is spread out smoothly, I add the cotton batting (pre-soaked and dried) and the quilt top (right side up) and get to pinning. Love my Kwik Klip! I know I say that all the time, but it saves my…

Reunion – Pieces and Placement
Reunion collection by Sweetwater for Moda I have started the Reunion quilt and I am so excited to see how it turns out. I cut the fabrics from a jelly roll and layer cake. This is the first time I have used a jelly roll and man did it make the job so much easier. Cutting was such a snap and it didn’t take long to have all the pieces cut and ready to go. A girl could get spoiled using pre-cut bundles!Of course, jelly rolls are not a new thing and many of you have already probably come to this conclusion. What can I say? I am a little…

“Sew as You Go” Project
Who is in need of some stress free sewing? This girl! How about you?I decided that I was in need of free and easy sewing after I finished my latest project. I love projects that are worry free when it comes to color and fabric selection, design, or cutting and piecing precision. I pulled out my scrap stash and started picking fabrics, making a mess and throwing fabric everywhere. Now I am sure you are thinking, “Well… making a mess and having to pick it up isn’t very stress free…” ,but this really isn’t different from any other time that I sew. My little one (1 yr. old) is a…

Sister Sewing 101
Yesterday was a fun day of sewing. My sister was in town to celebrate my father’s birthday and while she was here, she asked me to teach her a little sewing. She is redecorating her apartment and decided to make pillow covers to spruce up her bedroom and living room. She has never sewn before, but she loves fabric. I can tell that she has the beginnings of a fabric addiction. She can spend hours looking at different fabrics on the internet. That’s how it starts right? She picked out four great fabrics to make her pillows. She chose to make the front of the pillows with decor fabric…
